Starting August 1, 2023 employers participating in E-Verify can virtually verify work authorization and identification documents via video conferencing. To Start ensure Section 1 of the Form I-9 is completed by the employee within the first day of work for pay.

Step 2List Item 2
As the employer, complete Section 2 within 3 business days of the date of hire. Any person can examine work authorization and identification documents, however you must be aware that the employer will be liable for any mistakes and non-compliance. For remote I-9 inspection using the virtual method, you must inspect documents using a live video conference.

If you are using the new Form I-9 available for use on 8/01/2023 with a date of 8/01/23 check the box in the Additional Information field. If you are using the Form I-9 with a date of 2019 be sure to write "Alternative Procedure" in the Additional Information field. Starting 11/01/2023 only use the Form I-9 with the date of 8/01/23.
